INTRODUCTION
Living Waratah synergy is "If not us, who? And if not now, when?".
Waratah's Aboriginal name comes from its vibrant, red colouring. There are several Dreamings about the Waratah, one going back to the days of volcanoes! It comes from the Aboriginal term meaning; a tree with red flowers. Its botanical name is Telopea from the Greek, which means "stands out from a distance". For the Eora people (Sydney) means "beautiful".
In lutruwita - Tasmania, Waratah is iconic (not an emblem like in NSW), but it's admired in the wild, in gardens, on car stickers, and even on body tattoos.
At Living Waratah we recognise our past mistakes from disconnection from nature. We encourage renewed strength and ability for a more beautiful and sweet future for all.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE COMMUNITY AND PLANET
Food Security Project in rural Tasmania
OPPORTUNITIES vs RISKS
1. By using a holistic approach to deliver practical change and innovation vs Resistance to change and lack of investment.
2. By making positive impacts in rural and isolated communities vs Ensuring continued funding.
3. By optimise our connection with Mother Earth vs Environmental lost and natural disasters.
4. By promoting inclusion and ongoing learning vs Policies and regulations.
Objectives
HOW WE MAKE THE DIFFERENCE
We explore how individuals, households and communities incorporate sustainability into their everyday lives and find the gaps to make a long-term positive impact.
Tools that we use
Placemaking challenges the existing structures, cultures and mindsets of governments. Communities are made up of a variety of people. It is a matter of uncovering them.
Design Thinking for Sustainable Development. All design is powerful in its role in society. The all-pervasive social script influences almost every aspect of our daily lives & communities. We Empathise, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test.
ENGAGEMENT AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
We foster a safe space to contribute to a healthy discussion of the broader societal positive impacts with stakeholders involved in day-to-day life in Tasmania.

Flowers are the inspiration focus of our work, and they are rendered here in spirit and exquisite beauty.
From the ants, flies, and beetles delicately traversing the petals...
To the snails, butterflies, caterpillars and humans that inhabit the fringes of the work.
